BYD Atto 3 VS MG ZS EV : India has been focusing a lot on electric mobility in the SUV segment. Tata Motors is leading the segment with the Nexon EV, but other carmakers have more premium SUVs on sale, such as MG and BYD, the latest to enter India.

BYD has taken the wraps off its second all-electric offering, the Atto 3 in India ahead of its launch in early 2023. It is based on the brand’s tried-and-trusted architecture and intends to challenge the current reigning champion in the mid-sized electric SUV category, the MG ZS EV

The Chinese auto manufacturer BYD has recently introduced its second electric car in the Indian car market, the BYD Atto 3. This electric SUV has joined the previously launched electric MPY from the brand, the E6.

The recently unveiled BYD Atto 3 electric SUV promises to offer a class-leading range, outperforming one of its closest competitors, the MG ZS EV. Let’s take a closer look at the BYD Atto 3 vs the MG ZS EV in terms of battery specifications, charging options, and range.

MG Motor was one of the early movers in the long-distance EV segment in India with the ZS EV in 2019. The car was praised for its long list of features and a practical driving range of over 400km on a single charge.

However, with the entry of BYD’s Atto 3 in the mid-sized EV category, the competition will likely rise to a new level.

The BYD ATTO 3 is underpinned by the brand’s “E-Platform 3.0” and features a muscular hood, a closed-off grille, swept-back LED headlights with DRLs, roof rails, integrated LED taillights, and 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels.
The MG ZS EV sports a typical SUV silhouette and features a sculpted bonnet, a grille with an integrated charging port, swept-back LED headlights, wraparound LED taillamps, and 17-inch alloy wheels.

Both EVs have multiple airbags and ADAS functions :
The Atto 3 gets a spacious cabin with a powered driver’s seat, multi-color ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof, a 12.8-inch rotating infotainment touchscreen, and a 360-degree-view camera.
The ZS EV features a five-seater cabin with a wireless charger, connected car technology, automatic climate control, a 10.1-inch infotainment panel, ABS, and EBD.
Passenger safety is ensured by multiple airbags and ADAS functions in both EVs.

BYD Atto 3 vs MG ZS – Battery & Range :

The BYD Atto 3 is powered by a 60.48 kWh BYD Blade battery pack that provides an ARAI-certified range of 521 km on a full charge. BYD claims that the Atto 3’s battery pack can be charged from 0 to 80 percent in 50 minutes using a DC fast charger, while a regular AC charger takes 10 hours to fully juice up.

The MG ZS EV is offered with two battery pack options: a 44.5 kWh pack or a 50.3 kWh battery pack. The former offers a range of 419 km on a full charge and the latter offers 461 km. In terms of charging, the battery packs take 50 minutes to fully charge with a DC fast charger while a regular unit takes around 16 hours to fully charge.

The battery pack and single permanent magnet synchronous electric motor in the BYD Atto 3 produce 201 bhp and 310 Nm of peak torque, while the all-electric SUV can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 7.3 seconds.

In the MG ZS EV, the 44.5 kWh battery pack produces 141 bhp and 353 Nm of torque, while the larger 50.3 kWh battery pack produces 174 bhp and 280 Nm of torque. MG claims 0 to 100 kmph acceleration in 8.5 seconds.

BYD Atto 3 vs MG ZS EV – Price :

The pricing details of the BYD Atto 3 are yet to be announced and are expected with its official launch next month. We expect the BYD SUV to be priced around Rs 25 lakh to Rs 30 lakh, ex-showroom.

On the other hand, the MG ZS EV is available in three variants – Excite, Exclusive, and Exclusive Iconic Ivory – and is priced between Rs 22.58 lakh and Rs 26.59 lakh ex-showroom.
